About Jim Stalker’s Substack: “Tell the Truth and Run”

I'm a writer and fitness instructor who believes the path to wisdom involves both moving your body and challenging your mind. After 30 years of undiagnosed ADHD in corporate sales (which gave me plenty of experience in both running and truth-telling!), I've found my groove teaching over 5,000 fitness classes and counting.

The name "Tell the Truth and Run"? It comes from a saying that's guided my life: sometimes speaking truth means making people uncomfortable—including yourself. And that's okay. We grow in discomfort, whether it's during the last rep of a workout or when facing hard truths about ourselves.

Now, I'm documenting my journey of self-discovery and growth, approaching life with curiosity, minimalism, and urgency—always keeping a sense of humor close at hand. From the intricacies of human connection to gym culture insights and life's deeper mysteries, I examine the habits, ideas, and stories that help us thrive.

On this Substack, you'll find:

  • Raw, honest reflections on my journey to "know thyself"

  • Practical insights drawn from said journey

  • Motivation to pay attention, be curious, and get moving

  • No clickbait or affiliate supported content—ever. Just genuine exploration and earned insights

What to expect: I publish essays that blend philosophical inquiry with practical action - not on some artificial weekly schedule, but when there's something worth saying. Some posts provide workout wisdom, others deep dives into life's big questions, and occasionally both at once. Because let's face it—some of our best thinking happens during that last set of squats, and rarely on demand.

Why subscribe? Join a community where we question everything, move with purpose, and aren't afraid to laugh at ourselves along the way. Currently offering free subscriptions because I believe good ideas, like good form, should be accessible to everyone.

Thank you for considering this journey with me. I'm excited to connect and explore truth together—even if we occasionally need to run from what we find.
